South Cambridgeshire District Council receives Menopause Friendly Accreditation
South Cambridgeshire District Council has been accredited as a menopause friendly employer.
An independent panel agreed that the Council demonstrates the correct menopause awareness, guidance and support in place for colleagues.
The accreditation, created by Henpicked: Menopause In The Workplace, acknowledges organisations that uphold high standards and effective practices to support menopause in the workplace.
Cllr Bridget Smith, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “The Council strives to be an inclusive and supportive workplace, and has worked to reflect this in our menopause policy, guides and toolkits, as well as the establishment of menopause cafes - raising awareness of menopause in the workplace, and the adjustments and support available to colleagues.
As a modern and caring Council, we recognise the importance of creating a supportive environment for everyone at all stages of life. Being menopause-friendly is about fostering a workplace culture where everyone feels understood, respected, and empowered. We want to lead by example and ensure our employees know that we are here to support them through every stage of their careers, including times when they may need additional support and understanding.”
Deborah Garlick, CEO and founder of Henpicked: Menopause In The Workplace, said: “South Cambridgeshire District Council balances its provision of comprehensive resources with regular in-person sessions where conversations can be had and personalised support offered.
I’m always greatly encouraged by public sector organisations achieving the Menopause Friendly Accreditation as experience tells us the learnings, experience and empathy cascade from the workplace into the communities they serve. Not to mention the fact they’re setting a fine example to all their stakeholder organisations, many of whom will choose to take action themselves.”
